Fugitive surrenders to Ludlow Police
LUDLOW — A Reading man who spent the past four months a fugitive from justice has surrendered to police and is facing the possibility of more than 50 years in prison.Robert C. Wade surrendered 6 p.m. Saturday to Ludlow Police, said Officer Richard King. Wade was released on furlough in February after serving 22 months in prison for aggravated domestic assault, violation of an abuse prevention order and violations of conditions of release.
In July, Wade was listed on escape status and police believe he was responsible for several burglaries and auto thefts in Ludlow, including a 2005 Chevrolet pickup.
King said in early November, Tennessee State Police stopped Wade in a stolen pickup from Ludlow, but Wade eluded police after leading them on a high-speed pursuit. On Nov. 9, Ohio State Police found Wade and the pickup in a rest area, and while the officer checked Wade's information he fled on foot, King said.
King said Wade will be arraigned today in White River Junction District Court on charges of escape and unlawful trespass in an occupied dwelling. He is also facing additional charges of burglary, three counts of possession of stolen property, two counts of aggravated operation of a vehicle without the owner's consent and attempting to elude.
Wade is facing a maximum sentence of 57-1/2 years in prison if convicted on all charges, King said. Wade might also face additional charges in Ohio and Tennessee, King said.
