Thank You For the Flag

General News Thank You for the Flag
THANK YOU!!

Thank you to the anonymous donor who dropped of this new flag in the library's dropbox! Our previous flag was beginning to see some wear and the Kelins tried to clean it up but could not revive it to it's original "Glory". The Kelins loaned the library a flag until the Board of Trustees or the Friends could purchase a new one. The next Board meeting is Wednesday evening; the agenda was published two weeks ago. One item on the agenda was to purchase a new flag; and days later a flag appeared in the dropbox.

So THANK YOU to the generous donor. The Flag is gorgeous! Stop by and see for yourself!

Kids: A Look at the Decisions they Make, for Better or Worse

General NewsKids: a look at the decisions they make, for better or worse
WINDSOR— Vermont Youth Risk Behavior Survey results are in, and community members are invited to get the facts about what local kids are really up to at a Community Dialogue Night hosted by students on Wednesday, March 28, at Windsor High School.

YRBS, an annual survey conducted statewide and sponsored by the Department of Health and Department of Education, measures the prevalence of behaviors that contribute to the
leading causes of death, disease and injury among young people. It is part of the state’s ongoing effort to help communities reduce high-risk behaviors and encourage healthy
behaviors. The survey questions teens and pre-teens on a range of topics, from bullying and body image to drug and alcohol use.

Wednesday night’s forum, organized by Windsor High School students with the help of teacher Andy Jackins, will focus on survey results within Windsor Southeast Supervisory
Union. “We’ll explore the data and discuss strengths, concerns and a plan of action to reduce high-risk behaviors and promote healthy choices for our youth,” Jackins said.

The state made a few changes to YRBS last year. Before 2011, students in grades eight through 12 participated in one survey. In 2011, two surveys were conducted: a high
school survey of students in grades nine through 12 and a middle school survey of students in grades six through eight. All results in the 2011 high school survey report are for grades nine through 12 only; results from earlier surveys that appear in the 2011 high school report are different from those published previously.

The YRBS Community Dialogue Night will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 28, in the Windsor High School cafeteria. Light refreshments will be offered. For more information, call Andy Jackins at (802) 674-9822, ext. 337. For more information about YRBS, including survey results by county and supervisory union, visit
www.healthvermont.gov/research/yrbs/2011.

Hi all,

Attached is a press release (LOCATED ABOVE) announcing a Community Dialogue Night to explore the results of the latest YRBS (Youth Risk Behavior Survey) that I hope you will consider including in your weekend editions. I've also included a short blurb (below) for your calendar section in the days leading up to the event.

YRBS is an annual survey sponsored by the state. During the forum, we'll take a closer look at the results as they pertain to local (Windsor County) kids. (The survey questions teens and pre-teens on a range of topics, from bullying and body image to drug and alcohol use.)

Thanks for your time and consideration!
Maryellen

Subject: Hoisington Field After School

HAPPY SPRING!!

The kids and I were at Hoisington Field yesterday after school, and they were having a great time (Emily and her friend were reminiscing about their school days there). I would guess that many of us have a lot of good memories on that playground!

We are planning to play there again next Tuesday (3/27) after school. I thought I would send an email out to those I have addresses for in case you were looking for something to do with your children. The weather is suppose to be in the mid 50's and mostly sunny. It's a great time to toss in some extra gear like bikes, skateboards, balls, mitts, bats, Frisbees, etc. in the car just in case. Feel free to pass the word around.

Enjoy the sunshine!
Jacqui

County Ag Fair Seeks Participants

General NewsThe Board of Directors of the Windsor County Agricultural Fair announces that the 2012 Fair will be held on July 7 and 8 and is searching for farms and other businesses to participate. This year will mark the 39th year that the "Best Little Fair in Vermont" will be held at Barlow's Field on historic Eureka Road in Springfield. Fair hours will be Saturday 10 am to 7 pm and Sunday 10 am to 4 pm.

The focus of this year's fair is on New Agriculture, which, of course, is really just returning to the "old" ways of local food and small family farms. Farmers, craftspeople and tradespeople are invited to display in new exhibiting areas.

For information on exhibiting or sponsoring contact Kari Storm at 291-0731, wcafvt@gmail.com or visit www.windsorcofairvt.weebly.com
