How to Submit a Story

EDITOR'S NOTE:

Due to the avalanche of spam entries , we have been forced to disable new user registration. In addition, we are able to allow only new stories from logged-in existing users - no more anonymous submissions. We regret the inconvenience, and hope to be able to restore full community availability sometime in the future. If you have a valid story that you'd like to enter on iWeathersfield, please send an email to the site admin. Thank you for your understanding.

How to submit a Story to iWeathersfield

Note: Mac Safari Users click here

iWeathersfield doesn't have the luxury of a full-time staff of reporters and editors. Rather, it relies on people like you to share your news with the rest of the town. We each have a responsibility to keep all of Weathersfield informed.

After all, you know best what's happening in your groups, sports, schools and organizations.

We'd like to see stories about subjects that interest you. Share your expertise. You can write a story or a poem. You can review movies, concerts, and plays. Tell everyone about a recipe you made or book you read. Spread the word about an event. Contribute wit or opinions.

You can also add your comments to what has already been written.

Submitting a story to iWeathersfield is really quite easy. Here are some simple instructions to follow:

1. Go to iWeathersfield
At the top, left corner of every page in iWeathersfield, you'll find a link called "Contribute." Click on this link and you'll be taken to the appropriate page on the site. Please note: you must already be registered and approved on the site, and must be logged in to be able to submit stories. We apologize for the inconvenience. If you are not currently a registered member of the site and wish to submit a story, please send us an email.

Although it is not a requirement, we suggest that you be registered at iWeathersfield before submitting a story. When you're registered, your name (or whatever screen name you choose) will appear as a byline on your news piece. Plus it enables us to know whom to contact if there should be questions. This is important, especially if you are submitting an event and forget to enter some key detail, like time or place (it happens!)

To register, look for the "New User" link about halfway down the left side of any iWeathersfield page. You will select a username and your password will then be emailed to you. It just takes a minute.

2. Write your story
First, type in a headline, then, select a category (such as General News, Recreation, School News, and so forth).

Your story can range from a few sentences up to a few pages. It's up to you. It can just be a simple announcement, news of a more in-depth nature, or a link to something on your own web site. Classified ads are welcome - and free! Your opinions are welcome as well under the "Opinion" section.

iWeathersfield now features a nifty text editor which enables you to format your text just like in a word processor without having to know html. And if you type a url into the text area, it will automatically become a link (in "Plain Old Text" mode)!

If you want to take it a little farther, you can add lots of links, as well as your email address. just hilight your text, then click on the little icon above the text area that looks like a chain (link!). Another small window will pop up giving you the choice of whether this is a l ink to a URL, or to an email address. Make your selections and click save, or if you want to make sure it looks right (recommended) click preview. When you're happy with it click save at the bottom of the page.

Unfortunately none of this applies for Mac Safari users; click here for more information.

Don't worry about perfection. All articles are reviewed by iWeathersfield volunteers before they are put live on the web site, usually withing 24 hours of being submitted.

Photos
If you would like a photo or logo to appear with your piece, email it as an attachment to: web@barleywinegraphics.com. We can also copy a logo or photo off an existing web site. Just tell us where to look.

4. Finish it off
Once you've completed these easy steps, click on "Preview." You will then see exactly how your piece will look. Plus, you'll be given the opportunity to make any changes you might like. After you are completely happy with the piece, click on "Save." And that's all there is to it.

Someone will review your piece and place it live, normally within 24 hours.

Don't be afraid
There is no way you can screw anything up. Every piece is reviewed by an iWeathersfield volunteer before it goes live on the web site, so if there are any problems, we'll catch them before anyone sees them.
Ready to go?
If you're ready now with a news piece, or would just like to see what the "Submit Story" page looks like, Contribute Now.
